Living the Vision

Hello,

I decided to take my MO-110 exam last week which put me a bit ahead of the pace with my CompTIA labs. In case anyone was curious I got an A-, I was a little nervous when taking my exam, but after taking it I felt that I was adequately prepared from the prep materials provided. Wednesday, February 25th I completed chapter 5 Microsoft Excel, which means that I have only my prep until I will be ready for my MO-210 Exam. I almost feel ready to take the exam but I am not comfortable with some of the functions. If I were to do anything differently in Phase 1 of class I would study a bit more for my bonus quizzes. I dedicate up to two hours to study and sometimes the information doesn't quite stick.

I am excited to keep learning, but I know that the best thing I can do to improve my knowledge is practice and take my time. Excel is a really fun chapter I liked making Pivot charts and creating IF functions. For my chapter 4 skill I chose 4.9.3 Themes and Style Sets, I have very little experience using this tool. When you change the theme of a document you also change the document formatting and you change the Style options including the heading. The Themes are a preset option but you can adjust the color, font, spacing and effects.

Moving forward in IS101 and PSC101 I am enjoying both classes very much. My political science class is full of friendly debates and current events. It's very exciting being able to discuss the upcoming midterm elections with younger adults. It would be nice to have more than a two-party system so that politicians can be a better fit for the younger generations. Majority of my classmates don't feel as if they are represented and therefore don't feel the need to vote. I hope that everyone that can vote finds a reason to vote. My reasons may vary, but I vote to exercise my right to vote.

I am hoping that before I graduate I can join a club or get more involved in school events. I am so close to wrapping up this part of my journey. I only have to take a literature, statistics and a natural science class. College is a lot of work, but I hope that I can convince my teenager to take college classes early. My son is very talented, he plays the clarinet and consistently maintains good grades. We haven't discussed what school he may want to attend but I am worried that he will choose one that is far from home. I am happy that even though it took me awhile to get back in school that I can encourage my boys to continue their education by setting an example.

  1. You will conquer MO-210 Excel exam as you did with MO-110 Word exam, Zakiyyah.

Glad to hear you enjoy IS101 and PSC101 very much, Vibrant Learner :-)

Setting an example for your boys by earning your college degree is a wonderful vision to set and live! May you finish your final three courses after this semester and your teenager son chooses a higher education institution close to home ^_^

  2. Hi Zakiyyah, congratulations on getting an A- on the MO-110 exam, that’s actually impressive because those certification exams can be stressful. I also understand what you mean about studying and sometimes the information not sticking right away. With Excel especially, repetition really helps before the functions start making sense. I also had some challenges with the IF functions because there are multiple ways to represent zero or a result, but LabSim seems to expect a very specific format. Sometimes the answer is technically correct but it still marks it wrong because it wants it done a certain way. It can be a little frustrating but it does force you to be precise.

I also like that you mentioned the discussions in your political science class because debates like that can make a class more engaging. It is nice that you are thinking about joining clubs or getting more involved before graduating. Being back in school while encouraging your children to continue their education is a strong example to set. Sometimes the journey takes longer than expected, but it still moves forward.

  3. I just have to say that as being 24 years old, this world is crazy and the politics...is even more crazy. I think I'm too political but I feel like I know that people will agree with me regarding what is really wrong with the political climate. Overall I know I'm not the only one, and I'm glad to see and hear that meeting others that collectively have the same thinking lets me know that our future is ours and salvageable, Thank you Zakiyyah.

  4. Hello Zakiyyah! It's really good that you're ahead. I relate to how sometimes no matter how much time it takes to study somethings still might not stick. For me I never really get some stuff until I just feel a click at a seemingly random time. I think I might just learn in a very peculiar way. I remember enjoying my PSC 101 class, I'm glad that you're liking it as well. I would also love to join a club at some point I think it would be very fun. It's amazing that you're setting a good example for your kids to follow.

  5. Congratulations on passing the MO-110 exam, that’s a great achievement! It sounds like you’re making solid progress, especially with Excel. I can definitely relate to what you said about needing more practice with functions, honestly, I also find it challenging to remember all of them and to know exactly when to use each one. It really does take time and practice for everything to stick.

  12. Hi Zakiyyah, you’re doing amazing in the class. Also, I totally relate to wanting to get more involved in clubs or school activities; every time I try, the meetings always seem to fall on schedules that don’t work for me. Hopefully we both get a chance to join something soon.

  14. Another inspiring parent and a classmate. I commend you with your achievements in class and you took the exams way earlier than me plus having the responsibility of being a parent. What a crazy feat and I respect you for that. Becoming an inspiration to your kids to get a higher education is another commendable thing to mention. Just good things happening right after the other. Hope everything goes well in your family and push through the last stretch of this college life to enjoy more things in life!

  17. Hey Zakiyyah, you are definitely setting a great example for your kids and I'm sure they're very proud of you. It's interesting to know that political science is full of friendly debates, because I've taken that class almost two decades ago and the political climate was very different back then. Hope you graduate and succeed in all your future goals!

  18. "If I were to do anything differently in Phase 1 of class I would study a bit more for my bonus quizzes." I find this relatable, not just study for them but also consistently do all bonus opportunities given to us. It is less about getting bonus points out of it but more about learning something from it, but of course bonus points are a 'bonus' (pun intended). I wish I could have managed my time better, but I take 4 classes and found 2 of them quite challenging. When I got free time, I needed to dedicate it to helping my family with a bunch of things, so instead of using the rest of my free time to do the bonus quizzes, I just decided to rest or unwind.
